It stands for "Thank God It's Friday" and dates back to at least the 1960s. It's still widely used, though it now reads playful rather than sincere — closer to a sigh of relief than real gratitude. In a message to someone you don't know well, "Happy Friday" is the safer choice.
Is "Friday blessings" religious?+
